Seven years ago, while studying machine learning and computer vision at Caltech, I set out on a mission to leverage cutting-edge technology to support farmers and protect earth’s resources. Today, as a global team of 50 scientists, engineers, agronomists, and operators, we celebrate the 7th anniversary of Boomitra. It’s an opportune moment to reflect on our remarkable journey, our values, and the exciting path that lies ahead.

From a seedling idea to global impact

Boomitra, formerly known as ConserWater, was born from an unwavering commitment to sustainability. My initial goal was simple yet ambitious: to create a free app that would empower farmers to optimize their irrigation practices. I believed that empowering farmers to conserve water was essential for both farmer livelihood and a resilient agriculture system.

As Boomitra grew, we fine-tuned our technology and offerings, transitioning into a subscription-based platform for growers. This evolution allowed us to provide cutting-edge tools aimed at maximizing crop yields while minimizing resource use. The feedback from our early users was invaluable, and it fueled our drive to innovate.

Soon after, our team realized the true potential of our platform extended beyond optimizing irrigation. We saw a unique opportunity to leverage our technology to transform agriculture into a climate solution, and thus, our journey into the world of soil-based carbon credit generation began. This defining moment catapulted Boomitra from a tech startup to a pioneering force in the carbon removal sector.

Millions of acres, hundreds of thousands of farmers

Today, we are honored to have been selected as a finalist for the prestigious 2023 Earthshot Prize. Our impact now extends to several million acres and engages hundreds of thousands of farmers and ranchers across multiple countries in soil carbon restoration projects. Our growth was made possible through our unwavering commitment to our core values: sustainability, innovation, passion, authenticity, and inclusivity.

Our vision extends beyond acreage. We aspire to achieve gigaton scale in carbon removal, contributing significantly to global carbon reduction targets. We envision a world where our solutions serve as a catalyst for farmers around the world, transforming carbon removal from an ecological necessity into a sustainable means of livelihood.
