Health, Safety and Environment Policy

POLICY BRIEF & PURPOSE

Boomitra regards its people as its most valuable asset and places the highest priority on protecting them. The Boomitra Policy on Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) is based on Boomitra’s Code of Conduct, which is binding for all its employees.

Under this policy, we are committed to comply with local applicable legislation and regulations in the various locations of our operations. In addition, to the extent practicable, we continuously aim to improve our performance in the areas of Health, Safety and Environment.

We recognize our responsibility to protect the environment, ensure the health and safety of our employees, contractors, and communities, and to comply with all applicable laws and regulations. This HSE Policy outlines our commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace while minimizing our environmental impact.

SCOPE

This policy applies to all Boomitra’s board members, employees, interns, its vendors, partners, investors, customers, contractors, shareholders, and any other people we are connected to or do business with.

In the case of Health and Safety, this policy will apply only to Boomitra’s offices and will exclude employees’ homes in the event that they are working from home or any shared facility for which the management of Boomitra has no control.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

Balanced choices for a healthy planet. Adopt improved and balanced choices that aid in achieving certain sustainability goals. Educate others without being non-confrontational.

One of Boomitra’s Values is Sustainability and is the very foundation on which we do business and on which all our actions should be based. They define the character of our organization and about who we are. Demonstration of these values is reviewed during the employee performance appraisal. This ensures we balance “what” you want to achieve and “how” you do it.

Sustainability

We believe that developing a sustainable business is not only the best way to help look after our environment, but it also contributes to delivering a successful and ethical company. Our environmental impact is relatively small, but we still have a responsibility to protect the environment. For our stakeholders, this can be an important aspect as an increasing number seek to do business only with companies who have a clear understanding of their environmental impact and have policies in place to try and reduce it.

Compliance with Environmental Laws

Boomitra is dedicated to complying with all applicable environmental laws and regulations in every location where we operate. When it comes to environmental impact, Boomitra aims to meet the highest standards of compliance and to promote sustainable business practices within our operations and throughout our supply chain, be it offset or inset projects.

Resource Conservation

We strive to minimize our environmental footprint by conserving natural resources, reducing energy consumption, and promoting sustainable practices throughout our operations. As far as possible our employees will reduce travel by air unless really required. A video conference as a potential alternative to a physical meeting or carpooling when travelling for an off-site meeting can be amongst the many choices that can be made.

Waste Reduction and Management

Boomitra is committed to reducing waste generation, especially the use of paper, plastic, and disposable products in its offices, promoting recycling and responsible disposal practices, and continually seeking ways to minimize our impact on landfills.

Carbon Reduction Targets

Boomitra commits to setting and regularly reviewing science-based target initiatives to reduce carbon emissions in its various offset and inset projects, contributing to global efforts to mitigate climate change.

Biodiversity Conservation

Boomitra recognizes the importance of biodiversity and is committed to conducting business in a manner that preserves and protects ecosystems, especially in our carbon projects.

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY

Boomitra’s Occupational Health and Safety Policy helps us preserve the best possible work conditions for our employees. Every employee has a right to feel safe at work. Our company is committed to following legal standards and creating a hazard-free workplace.

We believe that work-related injuries and illnesses can be prevented. We have integrated health and safety into the management of the business through frequent communication, proactively advancing a strong safety culture. We strive to meet or surpass the requirements of the health and safety laws applicable in the countries in which we operate.

All Boomitra managers are accountable for managing workplace health and safety with strong leadership and credibility. They are responsible for cascading and implementing occupational health and safety standards for their direct reports and third parties under their control. As a condition of employment, we all have a duty to work safely.

Employees at all levels are accountable for working in a safe manner to prevent injury to themselves and fellow team members, and to become actively involved in programs to improve health and safety performance in the workplace. We work to ensure not only the workplace safety of our team members, but that of partners, farmers, ranchers, and other stakeholders.

When it comes to health and safety, everyone at Boomitra has a role to play. Key responsibilities include:

  • All employees must familiarize themselves with and comply with Boomitra’s posted safety rules and directives.
  • Immediately report workplace accidents, injuries, illnesses, unsafe conditions, and near-misses to your manager to ensure prompt medical attention (if necessary), help prevent future incidents, and ensure timely regulatory reporting (if required).
  • Ensure that you are aware of the fire escape routes, emergency evacuation procedures, and assembly points for your building.
  • Do not undertake work you are not qualified to perform. Be aware of the work you are undertaking and the hazards associated with it.
  • Always wear personal protective equipment (PPE) whenever required.
  • Look out for your own safety and that of others around you.
  • Ensure you are properly trained for the work you are doing.
  • Communicate our safety and health requirements to anyone coming onto Boomitra’s property, including visitors, customers, suppliers, service providers, workers, and contractors.
  • Strictly adhere to any instructions issued by the government or by Boomitra in the event of a virus outbreak or any other communicable disease. This may involve the use of sanitizers, proper social distancing, or the wearing of masks.

Note: This applies only to Boomitra’s offices and excludes employees’ homes in the event they are working from home or any shared facility for which the management of Boomitra has no control.

Put very simply, if it isn’t safe, don’t do it. Stop immediately and inform your manager. If you have any health and safety concerns, please speak to Human Resources. We expect all our team members to play their part in making Boomitra safe and ensuring their team has the right equipment, training, and knowledge to guarantee a safe working environment.

Employee Well-being: We promote the physical and mental well-being of our employees through health and wellness programs, encouraging a healthy work-life balance. We ensure that employees have access to necessary medical resources and support, including regular health check-ups and preventive care.

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

Emergency management refers to our plan to deal with sudden catastrophes such as fire, flood, earthquake, or explosion, whether due to human error or natural forces. Our emergency management measures include:

  • Functional smoke alarms and sprinklers that are regularly inspected.
  • Technicians available to repair leakages, damages, and blackouts quickly.
  • Fire extinguishers and other fire protection equipment that are easily accessible.
  • An evacuation plan posted on the walls of each floor.
  • Fire escapes and safety exits that are clearly indicated and safe.
  • Fully stocked first-aid kits at convenient locations.

We will also schedule fire drills and emergency evacuations periodically. We will monitor the performance of health and safety procedures and revise them to ensure a higher level of protection.

ADDITIONAL MEASURES

Boomitra will keep abreast of changes and actively promote health and safety. We will:

  • Update our policy according to changes in occupational health and safety legislation.
  • Use incentive actions for health and safety.
  • Analyze past incidents to discover what went wrong.
  • Establish clear procedures for accident reporting.
  • Revise work procedures to make them safer.

Our company will also consult experts or insurance representatives to ensure it complies with local and international standards.

DISCIPLINARY CONSEQUENCES

Every manager is responsible for implementing this health and safety policy. Employees should follow health and safety instructions and will be held accountable when they don’t. We will take disciplinary action that may extend to termination when employees consistently disregard health and safety rules. It is everyone’s responsibility to contribute to a healthy and safe workplace.
